nature's wisdom✨ and biomimetics🌱
It’s easy to be taken by the beauty of autumn trees. Even without colors, they’re majestic and sublime.Â
Many a tree gave me sanctuary past midnight on the Maumee river with my maternal grandmother (nana) after she finished up at the speakeasy on a rowdy Saturday night. Â
In pitch black darkness with nothing more than the moon and her fickle flashlight to light our way, I watched her and her friend, Mr. Stanley, bait hooks and fish as if it were high noon. Â Â
Beneath the southern hospitality she dispensed to blues and jazz greats of the 1950s, nana was a straight up Alabama country girl—fearless and familiar with being in the woods. I on the other hand was not…Â
Fishing after midnight taught me something about what it means to truly inhabit the world. Today, too many of us stroll through nature wearing an existential blindfold our ancestors could never don.
Their attention was fully integrated to nature at all times, with all of their senses highly attuned to survival and opportunity.
We claim to care about nature, sustainability and humanity’s future—bless our hearts. But we live increasingly disconnected from the natural world, insulated by climate-controlled, digitized lives.
Meanwhile, nature operates on an elevated level of generational intelligence.Â
While we debate climate change, trees are actively signaling warnings to protect young saplings through underground fungal networks—even hydrating them to ensure future canopies thrive long after the old giants fall.Â
Thousands of complex, life-sustaining functions are happening around us and within us without our conscious direction.
Trees and oceans produce the oxygen we breathe. Our hearts beat,  our lungs filter, and our skin regulates our body’s temperature and synthesizes vitamins, while maintaining an invisible shield to ward off pathogens.
Truly caring about our planet starts with our attention and the immediate home we inhabit—the body and the skin that protects it.
Our ancestors knew that their survival required paying attention, so they read nature for nourishment and protection.Â
This ancestral wisdom is exactly why we bypassed the hype of trendy essential oils and "magic ingredients” and turned to biomimetic carrier oils—the often overlooked workhorses of skincare formulations.
These oils deliver foundational skin biocompatibility required for skin health.Â
When sun-defying lipids of Brazilian buriti seeds or the cellular intelligence of Vanuatu island nangai seed oil are applied to skin, their symmetry and benefits are immediately available.
Nature has been testing, evolving, and perfecting its technologies for 3.8 billion years while we humans have been here for only about 300,000.
Our bodies remain inseparable from these natural systems. So let’s shed our blindfolds and pay closer attention to what life has to teach us.Â
It’s a beautiful way to honor the earth and elevate our daily wellbeing, starting from the outside in.
