did you know that skin is our first witness?👀
Beneath last week’s darkened skies and some shattered assumptions about human progress, the story I’ve been longing to tell about skin came to light.
Let me explain. Our environment is hurting and the systems that ensure our democracy are fragile. We’re navigating an unprecedented paradox we weren’t raised to expect, one that requires our intervention.
Our collective tendency to drift on the surface of things circumvents dealing with the deeper, harder truths underneath.
So, what do we do when reality breaks with our expectations?
We take up a proven form of resilience: we bear witness.
Collective attention unites us and is foundational to making small acts of care.
Politics engaged superficially result in missing the systemic erosion beneath headlines. The same is true for skincare, fanned by a triple digit billion-dollar beauty industry that aggressively funnels attention toward aesthetics. This keeps us ignorant about skin’s fundamental reality.
Most people know that skin is the body's largest organ. Far fewer know that skin begins forming remarkably early in life, during our first weeks of development.
As the heart begins its rhythmic work and the nervous system starts taking shape, our skin is already becoming part of the extraordinary architecture that will accompany us for the rest of our lives.
Take a moment and let that sink in… Skin is our first witness.
Its outer layer and our nervous system arise from the same embryonic layer—so you see, skin has never simply been a covering.
From the beginning, it has been deeply connected to how we experience the world, making it one of our most influential, vitally important organs.
Yet, we know little about and rarely bear witness to its true story in relation to our health and wellbeing.
Just as the structural health of our democracy and planet have been ignored under comfortable assumptions, similarly one of our body’s health baseline suffers the same fate.
These are the deeper truths behind eu2be’s focus on skin health and explain our differentiated product formulation strategy.
I’ve always believed that skin deserves more than cosmetic attention. Some of you remember our “nothing superficial” beginnings.
Skin is not just our first line of defense, it is our first bridge.
It protects us, communicates with us and for us, and often signals the earliest clues to what's happening within us.
It bears witness to every season of our lives from birth to death, including every embrace, every hardship, every healing.
I’m here for it, and I hope you will be too. Thank you for following along. Share this real story as we embrace skin’s truest story—how nurturing the organ that faces the world with us, replenishes our awareness and resilience inside and out so we can live our best lives and become who we want 2be.
